The detail
What is included, what is quoted separately
Confusion on this point is the first cause of an unpleasant surprise in this trade. Here is the line, written down before you order anything.
Included in every package
- The inventory of what exists: pages, addresses, forms, measurement scripts
- A private test address, where you approve before anything switches
- Redirects from every old address worth keeping
- The move to HTTPS and a tested contact form
- Privacy policy and cookie notice
- Handover of every account, in your name
Quoted separately
- The domain name and hosting, bought in your name from the provider you choose
- Licensed photography or illustration, if you want new images
- A second language: +$850 on the Rebuild + integrations package
- A catalogue, a booking system or a client area: quoted after the inventory, never before
- The monthly care described below — which you can decline
Payment
Half to start, half on handover
50% when you order, 50% the day I hand over the accounts. No compulsory subscription, no minimum term, no exit penalty.
The package is fixed. If the inventory shows the site is bigger than the menu suggested — which happens often, hidden pages are the rule rather than the exception — I tell you before starting. You then choose: move up a package, reduce the scope, or stop there. What I do not do is discover the overrun halfway through and present it to you at the end.
What you are not buying
The site is yours from day one
Part of this market does not sell a website — it rents one. The shape is recognisable: a modest sum to start, a monthly subscription, a commitment of several years, and a site that remains the supplier's property.
The domain is in your nameBought by you, from the provider you choose. It does not pass through me.
Every account is handed overHosting, code, database, analytics. On the day of handover you could give it all to someone else the next morning.
No minimum termThe package is paid once. There is no month 13, and no notice period to serve.
Nothing switches off if you leaveThe site keeps working without me. That is the difference between buying and renting.
After launch
Care, $99 to $390 a month
A site left alone is dated again within two years. Care starts on launch day: hosting, backups, updates, uptime monitoring and content changes. The amount depends on the time included.
You can decline. In that case I hand everything over and you run it yourself. That is not a courtesy: the site is built to stay readable and editable without me.
Frequently asked
Before you order
Can the price change once we start?
No. The package is fixed. If the inventory shows the site is larger than expected, I tell you before starting and you decide: move up a package, reduce the scope, or do nothing.
Who owns the site once it is paid for?
You do. The domain, the hosting and every account are in your name from day one. There is no rental, no minimum term, and no clause that would break the site if you leave.
Is the monthly care compulsory?
No. You can decline it: in that case I hand over every account and you run the site yourself.
Which currencies do you invoice in?
Prices are shown in US dollars. Canadian dollars and pounds sterling are quoted on request. I invoice in your currency.
Does the current site stay online while you work?
Yes. The new version is prepared on a private address. Nothing changes on the public site until you have approved it.
